Dr Seán Klinkradt - Senior Associate, Patent Attorney

A registered Australian and New Zealand Patent Attorney with more than 20 years of experience in IP, Seán leads the biotech and health practice at Baxter IP. Seán has extensive experience across pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical devices, veterinary products, and chemical patent applications. His clients range from universities and research institutions to smaller research groups and start-ups. Sean has a strong focus on meeting clients’ commercial needs. In the 2023 IAM Patent 1000 rankings Seán was ranked as a Recommended Individual, recognised for utilising “his extensive academic background in biochemistry and neuroscience to safeguard his patrons’ intangible assets”. Seán completed a PhD in neuroscience at RMIT University, Melbourne. The focus of his research related to the discovery and characterization of a new excitatory amino acid transporter in mouse and rat brain, a protein that has been identified as a likely candidate for therapeutics for the treatment of numerous neurological diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, and neuropsychiatric diseases or disorders. He has also been awarded degrees in science, law, and ancient cultures by the University of Port Elizabeth, University of Technology Sydney, the University of Sydney, and Stellenbosch University. Committed to sharing his expertise with the next generation of IP specialists, Seán lectured in IP and medical subjects at universities in Melbourne for a number of years. Seán is a Fellow of the Institute of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys of Australia and an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
